Third Generation

Been meaning to post this story and picture for some time now.  Back on Fathers day I took out Scott(left), his son, and his father.  Scott had won his guide trip off a contest I ran on my facebook page.

We met at Lake Mille Lacs that morning and headed out in pursuit of smallmouth and walleyes.  The smallmouth fishing was fantastic as always and we did manage to catch a few nice gravel lizards as well.  We had our best luck on 3.8 keitech fat swimbait rigged on a 1/2 oz head. We would throw it all around both shallow and deep rocks.  The nice thing about the keitech swimbait is it runs as deep as you let it sink before you start retrieving it.  I always throw it on 14lb sunline shooter flurocarbon; since the zebra musssles are so bad on the rocks you have to step your line up one or two times to keep it from breaking all the time.

It was a great day, and it was awesome to watch this 3 generations fish together.  Scott's son took a break for part of the day because he was scared that a smallmouth might pull the rod out of his hand and into the lake.  After I reminded that although the smallies are strong he wouldn't get the rod ripped out of his hand he was back to catching them on his "hair jig" set-up.  Between Scott and his son they must have boated 20 smallmouth bass in excess of 3lbs that day.

Thanks guys for a great day and until next time, Fish On! (and always hold onto your rod so a fish doesn't snatch it from you)  Get out and stretch the string.
