FishWithMatt!!
Yes I was able to fishwithmatt on Friday. Matt Rauenhorst that is. Was joined on Mille Lacs by Matt Rauenhorst and Jay Moore for a day of bass fishing. We were able to catch some nice smallmouth and largemouth. Matt R. lead the charge with numerous fish over 4 pounds.
All of our fish came shallow on tube jigs and senko's.
This was Jay's best smallmouth coming in at about 19"! It was the tail of two days in one, for the first half of the day it was foggy and cold. We wore rain gear until 1 o'clock and then it all burned off and got very nice out. We were wearing short sleeves by early afternoon.
Look at the belly on this female. Think she is getting ready to spawn. There were very few fish on beds, but they were starting to move shallow to get ready to spawn.
On The Water
On Saturday Pete, Gunner, and Myself bundled up and headed for the river. Felt great to get back on the water and in the boat again. We struggled to locate fish for the first few hours. So we continued to change areas and baits until we finally found a presentation they would eat. We finished the day with about 25 walleyes, some rough fish, white bass, smallmouth, and one northern.
The biggest key to our success was finding "clean" water. The river is ripping with heavy current right now and has clouded up bad. The fish can not bite something they don't see.... Once we found some cleaner water we started catching fish pretty consistently. The biggest fish went about 4 pounds with most in the 2 pound range. They are all spawned out and have started to venture back to some of there summer areas. With temps climbing into the 70's this week, I hope to be on the lakes around here in the next week or so. Stay tuned for more pictures and updates soon.
Colorado Rainbow

Here is a picture of a beautiful Rainbow Trout caught over the weekend by good friend Matt Rauenhorst. Matt sent me this over the weekend. He was on vacation in Colorado and took some time to fly fish. He was rewarded with a great Rainbow Trout. So now the last two posts have been submitted by Matt. Guess I need to get out there and catch some fish of my own!. I have not had anything to report lately due to the lack of time spent fishing.
With the ice fishing season winding down and the open water season around the corner I have been in limbo. As soon as I get on the river and things start happening I will report back here often. I am headed back to Canada on Wednesday to chase Lake Trout and Walleyes one last time through the ice. Watch for some pictures and stories later this week from our adventure in Canada!
