The Final Day Weigh-In

This was the day 3 weigh-in at the Forrest Wood Cup when I took the lead for a short while. Was a great experience!
Big Bite Baits put up a small story about my come from behind-almost win at the Lanier Cup! If you haven't fished any of their stuff yet, do yourself a favor and get some. They make some of the best plastic baits I have ever fished. As many of you know, when you fish for a living you can't fish with sub par baits or equipment. I fished Big Bite for years and begged to be apart of their team since I was such a believer in their stuff. Big Bite makes outstanding baits.
For those of you who don't follow me on Facebook, didn't watch the weigh-in live, or if you haven't heard yet.....I took 4th at the Forrest Wood Cup this past week on Lake Lanier!
I started a little slow....ok more than a little slow-a zero on day one. :( But made up for it with the biggest bag of the day on day 2 and moved all the way up to 10th and made the cut to fish on day 3. Then on day 3 I once again weighed a good bag (9.15-the same weight as day 2) and moved all the way up to 4th where i finished. I did get to sit in the hot seat for about 20 minutes. It was so exciting. I have a video from the weigh-in, I will try and get it posted here.
I caught all my fish deep either on a 4.5" Morning Dawn Roboworm nose hooked on a #1 Gamakatsu Drop Shot hook. My other go to bait was a Spro Little John DD that I had custom painted by my good friend Rob Jordan of Xtreme Lure Creations.
I would throw the crankbait as I came up on a brush pile and then would drop shot it as soon as I was up on it. When I got up on the brush aka "the juice", it was important that I fished the drop shot vertical. I had to hold it straight and not shake it very much at all. If I pitched it out from the boat and the line had any scope in it, they didn't want anything to do with it. I was glad to move up and make a run at the title.
I am now back in MN and will be guiding Muskies and Bass the next few weeks. Got out yesterday and caught some dandies. I will post more on that soon. Until next time-Fish On!
