What Ya Got There?!

Hit the waters of Mille Lacs in search of "raw rye" and smallmouth! We were crank'n Spro Lil John's custom painted by Xtreme Lure Creations and managed to catch some giant walleyes up shallow during the middle of the day! These fish were crushing the crankbaits. Was rather unusual to catch this big of fish this shallow during mid day and high sun-but we were not arguing. Needless to say we had fun with the walleyes for a little bit and then headed back to chasing brownies(caught some giants). We even got into some good largemouth action....those videos to come. Fish On!

Headed Back to Lanier

FLW recently announced that it will be going back to Lake Lanier, GA in 2012 for the Forrest Wood Cup-World Championship of bass fishing. Because of that I thought I would share this video of a magnum spot I caught on a Spro Lil-John MD while fishing on Lake Lanier. I fished the Forrest Wood Cup on Lanier in 2010 and managed to catch one of these giants during the event. The lake is loaded with some the biggest spotted bass I have ever caught or seen.... The one in this video was 5 1/4lb's!

And Another Season Starts

As the old cliche goes, "all good things must come to an end"!  As many of you know, I was on a tear with the Walleyes every where I had been chasing them.  It was the best month of Walleye fishing I can ever remember.

I have had to put walleye fishing aside as of recently to pursue some of the other great species here in MN.  With Bass and Muskie season now open I have been getting many requests and trips to chase the toothy critters.  On Thursday I hit the water with the Miller boys and we did it all.....caught bass, pike, and a nice 45 1/2" muskie.

Being that Rich lives in Florida he had never done battle with a muskie; so this was extra special for him.  It never comes easy but this fish seem to do everything we needed it to in order to stay buttoned on his line.  Once in the net it was a bit upset, but Rich was just filled with excitement and joy of his first ever muskie.  Congrats to Rich for a great fish and the memories of the "fish that never knew it was hooked" battle.

Mike also got in on some good action with some good bass and dandy pike.  All together we probably caught over 20 bass.  Lots of small fish but we always seem to catch a few fish at each spot.  We also boated 3 pike ranging from 4-7lbs.

The fish all have finished spawning and the bite has each species in a bit of a funk.  They are in what we call "recovery" mode.  The muskies are not real aggressive yet and the big female bass are not to their summer stuff yet.  They are in a transition between the shallow spawn areas and the summer haunts.  As the weather warms in the next few weeks and the grass gets up a little better the fishing should get nothing but better.  I will be back on the water pretty much every day in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more photos and stories.  Until next time, Fish On!
