Lake Of The Woods

dec 05 lowBack from my first ice fishing adventure of the year.  I spent the last six days on Lake of the Woods with Mike, a.k.a. Wing Nut, and had varied success.  The first few days produced some numbers of fish with the final two days being very tough.  We had about 14" of ice in the gap out from Morris Point.  Fished in about 19 feet of water most of the time we were there, but when the fishing got tough we tried shallower and  deeper with neither producing results for us.

The only real high note of the trip was on Monday, December 5th when I was fortunate enough to catch a 9 lb walleye.

Ice Fishing

Winter is once again bearing down on us for the next 4 months. If you don't enjoy ice fishing it can make it a little on the long side.  Well, don't worry, that's where I come in.  I will be leaving next Monday (Dec. 05th) for Lake of the Woods for eight days.  The ice has begun forming and will be good to go when I get there.  Needless to say, I am excited.  If you or someone you know is  looking to try something different or wants to go ice fishing, consider buying them a guided ice fishing trip gift certificate for Christmas.

I still have some openings for both Red Lake weekends and Lake of the Woods.  We are expecting to be on all the metro lakes in the next week or two.  I will report back with both the ice report and a fishing report as soon as I can get to a computer.

Lastly, if you are in the market for an ice house we still have a few in inventory at Pro Fish Enterprises over in Watertown.  We will be at the River Centre in St. Paul this weekend for the annual ice fishing show.  I look forward to seeing lots of you there.

What a fall

The unbelievable weather that we have been having has allowed many extra fishing outings this fall.  After going to Rushford, Minnesota this weekend to shoot deer and having great weather but only fair hunting, I had to get out fishing.  Yesterday afternoon I headed out on Waconia with Peter Bilecki and Bill Miller to chase a few largemouth bass and walleyes at dark.  The walleye bite was non-existent but the largemouth bass had other 137-3799_IMGb.gifideas, and we were fortunate enough to land a few.

With ice fishing right around the corner and a lot to do at the shop, I will probably not have too many more outings on the open water.  I look forward to this winter and hope I have a chance to get many of you out on the ice.

And you thought all I knew how to do was fish

Welcome to my new site! I am very happy to have a host of new capabilities and options to keep all my readers up to date on my Lake Reports and travels. Bear with me while I finalize a few design tweaks here and there.

You may notice right away that the site is much more organized, dynamic, and (hopefully) user-friendly.  After living with my old site for over a year, it was pretty clear that my Lake Report was the most popular and useful piece of the site.  Now each report, or 'blog' entry,  is not only 'commentable,'  but organized by topic. You can also add your own two cents in numerous ways - by commenting on a specific post, starting a thread on the message board, or simply signing the guestbook.  The best part is that I can manage all the content of the site from any web browser myself - including adding photos - without bugging my webmaster (otherwise known as my sister, Jenny).   Please let me know what you think and any additions you'd like me to consider - I will gladly entertain any ideas. You can even discuss your input on the message board...
