Whitefish, Mille Lacs, one two punch

p624008502.jpgAfter working late on Friday night I headed up north first thing in the morning on Saturday to Matt Rauenhorsts cabin on the Whitefish chain.   Saturday we fished Whitefish and had some nice largemouth action on both jig worms and top water.  My first fish of the trip was just about five pounds and came on a weed line on a chug bug top water.  We finished the afternoon off with some water skiing, cock tailing, and grilling.

After dark Mike,Crea, Matt, Carrie, Kristine, and Myself headed for Moonlight bay on Cross Lake to take part in the evenings festivities.  Once there we met up with Brad Leuthner, Brian Brown, and Cody Zdrazil fellow fisherman up north for a bass tournament.  The night was filled with lots of laughs and dancing.

Sunday we bounced up early to head for Mille Lacs to chase some smallmouth and muskies for the day.

My boat fished for smallmouth while Matt's boat fished muskies most of the day and only raised one.  The one was a 50" plus but it never did eat.  The smallmouth took awhile for Mike and I to get on, but once we found a few in the reeds the action was started.

p625010302.jpgWe were throwing senkos in and around the reeds with some success but finished the day fishing tube jigs in and around rocks and docks.  Tube jigs did produce our biggest fish off of the rocks.  The weather was great for a day on Mille Lacs and the fishing was fun as always.  Everything about this weekend was great.  Thanks guys.

Thanks Matt this really made for a great weekend!  Can't wait until we can do it again.
