A true trophy

What can I say...?   This morning I hit the water with Meg, Dan, and Betsy.  We were in search of a few muskies.  After fishing through a beautiful sunrise and watching another boat land a muskie we were starting to wonder if we were going to accomplish our goal of landing a muskie.

I had not been fishing most of the morning because I wanted to see one of my guests do battle.  It doesn't do any good for me to catch the fish....  Well after Betsy opted for a break and told me to throw a few, I was hooked up and doing battle with this trophy muskie.  It measured in at 53" and was really cool to watch fight.  I was fortuante enough to watch it eat my bait and swim away with it.  The first 20 plus seconds it never even knew it was hooked.  But after reeling it for a bit and getting it close to the boat, it then realized something wasn't right and it took off like a cop dog that was just released on a robber!  It made the girls morning although they didn't get to catch it.  It was fun to put some muskie slim in and on the boat.  Thanks for the great morning guys.

2 Giant LMB'S!

This is one of two giant largemouth I put in the boat last week when the boys from Georgia were here.  This LMB pushes the scale at 7 pounds.  This is a big largemouth any where....needless to say I caught it in MN...the shortest growing season for bass.

My brother recently moved back to the states (Atlanta) from Switzerland and brought two of his best friends up to MN for a few days of muskie fishing.  We did not land a muskie but it wasn't for a lack of chances.  We did get in front of a few but it just wasn't meant to be.  Every time they had a strike or a fish attempt to eat, the fish found a way to shake loose.

Here is the second of the giant bass I caught while fishing with the boys from Georgia.  This one tipped the scales over 6.  I think the fellas from Georgia brought some of the "big bass" blood from the south into my boat last week.  Thanks fellas for hanging tough on the muskie hunt.  It doesn't always come easy and they witnessed it first hand for 4 hard days of "launching" for skies.  I think you guys should get on the plane and get back up here....pics soon to come!

Mille Lacs Crush

Erik Rasmussen and myself recently enjoyed the power of Mille Lacs.  It was a total crush session.  If you or anyone you know would like to get in on some killer smallie action please contact me in the next few weeks.  We will be making two trips back to the big pond next week.  The sad part of this day came when we returned to the boat ramp and realized someone had stolen all of my muskie fishing gear out of the back of my truck.

Most of our action came on tube jigs in and around the rocks.

Erik was putting on a clinic early in the day.

I came on strong late in the day with the 2 big fish of the day coming in at 19" and 20".

The Grand Slam

Last week we accomplished the "grand slam" of freshwater fishing.  We boated a muskie over 40", a walleye over 28", and an over 20" largemouth! I would think this has rarely ever been accomplished.  Needless to say Chris, Brian, and myself had a great day on the water.

This giant walleye chowed in the middle of the afternoon on a calm, hot, and sunny day.  Kind of odd for walleyes.  Gues she was hungry.  After a few quick photos, I released her back to fight again.

Our ten best bass would have weighed about 40+ pounds!
